Singing lessons in Glossop

Singing for adults – all levels welcome

Glossop is a little further from my Marple studio – around 25 minutes’ drive through Charlesworth and Marple Bridge. If the journey doesn’t suit, online lessons are a great alternative. I’ve been teaching online since 2020 and it works remarkably well.

Glossop has a strong singing tradition, from the non-audition Glossop Choral Society to the local Rock Choir and the productions at the Partington Theatre. Whether you already sing with a group and want to build your technique and confidence, or you’re starting from scratch and want to find out what your voice can do, I’ll tailor every lesson to you.

I specialise in adult beginner to intermediate singers in contemporary styles – pop, rock, folk and musical theatre – in a relaxed, non-judgemental space.

Testimonials

I really couldn’t sing in tune and thought I was a no-hoper but Mags reassured me over the phone that it was possible to learn. She’s a brave lady taking me on! I’m starting to recognise when I’m in tune now whereas before I hadn’t a clue; and whilst I’m not the best of singers, I can definitely hear the improvement in my tuning and voice strength.

Mike

A hero!

Mags is an absolutely amazing teacher. I can’t tell you how nervous I was on my first lesson but Mags put me at my ease and very slowly  we have found my voice. A year later I have done 3 public performances and even enrolled on a week long singing course.

She is kind and funny and incredibly encouraging. So even if you are convinced you have no voice, you may just surprise yourself!

57 years of being too scared to use such a wonderful instrument and Mags had me singing confidently in no time.

Thank you Mags. You are a HERO!

Jane

A vocal miracle worker

Mags has transformed my voice from what could best be described as a window-shattering strangled cat to something very passable! We’ve tackled some fab power ballads and I can now sing my heart out in the car without my passengers demanding ear plugs. I absolutely love my sessions with her and feel like I just keep on improving. She is a fantastic teacher, exceptionally perceptive and very lovely to boot. A vocal miracle-worker for sure!

Questions from Glossop singers

Is Marple too far to travel to from Glossop?

It's around 25 minutes by car through Charlesworth and Marple Bridge. If travelling isn't practical, online lessons are a great alternative and cost the same as lessons in person.

I sing classical music in a choir. Can you still help?

I teach contemporary styles rather than classical, but the core skills – breathing, tuning, tone and confidence – carry across to any kind of choral singing.

How often should I have lessons?

Weekly lessons are ideal for keeping momentum, but fortnightly works well too. We can find a rhythm that suits your schedule and your goals.
